Trail Overview

This is an easier trail between Boulder City and Jean Dry Lake Bed and then Jean. The trail starts as a powerline road heading towards the hills. The road is smooth with a few washes and some washes with rougher transitions. You will come to a paved road;pass with care. Continuing on, you cross the apex of the mountain, and the trails leading here are a mix of washy fun trails and rocky shale with a few hills requiring 4WD for safe crossing. Down the hill, you head towards Jean Dry Lake Bed in washes. There are dozens of ways you can head down the mountain and hit the dry lake bed. People camp on the dry lake bed, so be mindful not to speed near campers. The dry lake bed is worth stopping and taking a photo. The next stop is Jean where you can fill your tires or continue to your next adventure.

Not a technical trail by any means, any 4x4 could reasonably complete this. That said, no matter the speed, after turning off of Powerline road… this trail rides like shit, at least in a truck even with sways disconnected and long travel suspension.

It’s a long plowed dirt road from US95 until we turned off to McCullough Pass. Don’t know what it’s like west of the turn off. If it’s like McCullough Pass, than it’s easy like it’s rated.

Picked the trail up on the dry lake bed. Super fun trail. Gets pretty rocky at some points but after that it’s smooth and can get up to some pretty decent speeds.

Trail was relatively easy, the first mile and a half. it got more difficult as the road was washboarded causing the vehicle this way left to right for quite a long time. Sand rail and twenty four inch travel might have helped.

Lots of dirt bikes on the dry lake beds. no-one on the trail itself. Good ride with some fun short rock face midway through. VERY washboard on the Boulder City side of the trail.

Washboard most of the trail. At one point just below the peak ruts were deep enough to hit bottom and we needed to raise the vehicle to avoid bottoming again. Overall easy enough and fun.

About 20 of the 27 miles has heavy wash boarding making for a rough ride in my Bronco. Soft sand surrounding the dry lake bed. There are multiple ways to cross the dry lake, so don’t feel the need to stick to the green highlighted trail which crosses through the southern portion of the dry lake.

Some fairly long washboard near the Boulder City end of the trail. A few steep grades closer to Jean. No major obstacles. Most fun riding was on the way into Jean. Fun trip and easy to do with a 4WD. 2WD and AWD will struggle at the most difficult spots near the peak closest to Jean.

The trail is very wash board and rocky on the Boulder City side. Then there are couple rutted out sandy turns. Stock 4x4 friendly. Overall a good trail!

Entering from the 95 south the first couple of miles is pretty rough, but smooth sailing after that

The whole first half of the trail is very bumpy. There is a part in the middle of the trail where you lose cellular signal and that’s where the tricky part is. You will pass a canyon where there is a steep and slippery slope with medium boulders. Do not stop midway to see how you’re doing just send it until you get to the top and you’ll be fine. We accomplished this bit with X-Mode in a Subaru Outback Wilderness and it was doable although a bit sketch. The pictures included by another user in their Jeep very accurately showcase the conditions.
