Trail Overview

Antelope Valley Road offers a long, fast, and wide dirt track that serves as the main artery for the western side of the valley. The journey begins right off Highway 50 at a massive, well-leveled staging area, an ideal spot for those hauling trailers to unload side-by-sides or motorcycles before diving into the more technical trail networks nearby. The drive is characterized by its sense of absolute scale, as you cruise through an endless "sagebrush sea" with jagged mountain ranges framing both horizons. Partway down the route, the trail passes near the historic Hot Springs Ranch; please maintain a slow speed here to minimize dust out of respect for the private property. As you reach the crossing of Alison Creek, keep an eye out for a cluster of weathered ruins. Nearby, an old corral marks one of the most outstanding dispersed camping spots in the valley, providing elevated views and a deep sense of Great Basin solitude. The trail culminates at the gate of the Bench Creek Ranch, where you can view impressive historic ranch structures from the safety of the public road. As the name implies, your odds of seeing Pronghorn Antelope racing across the flats are exceptionally high. This is active cattle country. Livestock frequently wander onto the road; please yield the right-of-way and move slowly when cattle are present. Expect zero cell service once you leave the Highway 50 corridor. Download offline maps before heading out. This is an extremely remote area. Travel with at least one gallon of water per person per day, extra fuel, and a full-sized spare tire.
