Trail Overview

The track opens as a skinny "minimally maintained" lane of deep, soft sand cut between crop rows. After a while, it broadens into a nicely graded stretch, only to narrow again and return to that sandy, lightly tended "minimally maintained"character. The road runs almost ruler-straight, climbing and dipping over gentle rises, and it skirts several farmyards. Beware of children and local traffic. You will find no camping spots, water taps, or trash bins, and cell service fades without warning, so plan on complete self-reliance.

Difficulty

The trail is well-maintained and routinely graded to support a range of local use, from daily agricultural traffic by farmers.

History

The Gravel Line follows a scenic stretch of Nebraska's rural past, from Kansas to Nebraska, entirely on gravel. These quiet backroads once linked farms, rail towns, and prairie homesteads--routes shaped by everyday life on the Plains. Today, the trail invites travelers to slow down and experience the landscape much as early settlers and locals once did. It's a peaceful drive through rolling hills, open skies, and the quiet history woven into Nebraska's countryside.
