Trail Overview

Warm Springs Laird Starts immediately off of Highway 93 near the Rocky Knob Restaurant. The first mile of this trail goes through a residential area before you reach national forest land. In this first mile, there are multiple speed limit signs of 15 mph put up by the residents, so please go slow here. You probably will want to stick to that speed as there are some potholes, washboards, oncoming traffic, and a coupleof narrow spots in this section anyway. Once you reach the forest land, you will find an overall very smooth and quick-flowing trail. This trail varies in width quite a bit, from one to two full-size vehicles wide. There are an abundance of pullouts, so there should hardly ever be a situation where passing another vehicle is difficult. There are some very minor ruts along this route, but nothing is deeper than 4 inches. Same with rocks, there are very few and nothing taller than 4 inches. There are a couple of spots where some bushes have grown into the trail. However, you can still get through with a full-size pickup without any branches rubbing on the paint. There are sections with a decent drop off the edge of the trail, but there is usually plenty of room on the trail for little concern about the drop. This trail starts as a very gradual climb, and after the first switchback, the climb increases just a little bit. Overall, this is not a steep trail by any means. Along the way, you will find a few good views of the mountain near Medicine Point Lookout and of the valley towards the highway. This trail ends at a 5-way intersection where you have a handful of options to go next, depending on which type of vehicle you have.

Difficulty

This is a very easy trail for nearly any vehicle. There are very few and small obstacles (rocks, ruts, potholes, washboards). Otherwise, this is a very smooth gravel trail, and in many spots, two vehicles wide with plenty of pullouts. This trail should be avoided in the winter and spring, unless you have great deep snow experience, as deep snow is likely.
