Trail Overview

This old mining road off Granite Lake Road features granite faces and expansive views of the Tobacco Root Mountains. The surface is dirt and stretches of loose rock, generally passable in dry conditions. A few pull-offs provide dispersed camping opportunities. The trail ends at a saddle that marks the divide between Deer Lodge National Forest and Beaverhead National Forest. Limited cell service is available at the saddle.

Correctly rated, a high clearance AWD CUV with good tires can make it. We had a Silverado and Tacoma in the group. The Silverado made it 3/4 of the way before a large rock in the road made it impassable for the wider truck. Well worth the amazing views.
