Trail Overview

Sweathouse Creek Trail is a trail only open to motorcycles, as far as motorized vehicles go. This is a very difficult trail to ride on a dirt bike, so be prepared; you will likely break a sweat on Sweathouse. The first mile of this trail is pretty easy. At the trailhead, it starts as a trail nearly wide enough for a full-size pickup. It quickly narrows into a 50-inch width trail and then soon after, a single track. However, shortly after the one-mile mark, the trail starts to get very rocky, very quickly. This is where you will want to turn around if you aren't an expert-level rider. Sections of this trail are rock gardens of 2-4ft diameter rocks, and it is sometimes hard to tell that the trail exists. Some sections get very muddy in the spring as well. This trail is pretty steep at times, and there are a couple of very sharp switchbacks around boulders. In between rock sections, there are some easier, smoother dirt parts of the trail, but they don't last very long before you are back to hopping over rocks. Towards the end of the trail are two good-sized waterfalls that are a great place to take a break. There are some decent views down the canyon into the valley near Victor, Montana as well as toward the end of the trail. The end of the trail is a dead end where the trail just disappears. This is near the boundary of the Selway-Bitteroot Wilderness. This trail is an in-and-out trail, so you will have to ride it both directions. Watch for hikers as this is a popular hiking trail.
