Summit Cabin Road is a scenic, three-mile mountain track offering a mild yet engaging four-wheel-drive experience through high-altitude burned forests and rugged Montana backcountry. Ideal for high-clearance vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes, this route provides a steady climb with a maximum elevation of 6,449 feet and a total elevation gain of 586 feet. The trail surface is primarily dirt and rock, presenting narrow, rocky hill climbs and occasional deep mud holes that stretch across the entire path. As the road winds through private land parcels, staying strictly on the designated trail is critical to maintaining future access.
Dispersed camping is highly limited along this route, with only a single campsite situated just outside of a private property boundary. Wildlife is abundant in the area, offering drivers the chance to spot deer, elk, and wild mushrooms along the forest floor. There is no winter maintenance, meaning snow accumulation will make the road impassable for standard vehicles in the colder months, and cell service is highly unreliable, fading to a single bar of LTE. Offroaders should prepare with self-recovery gear for muddy sections and enjoy the quiet, remote mountain scenery.
