Trail Overview

This route is a beautiful, scenic excursion with amazing views of the Blackfoot River. This trail is a fun way to connect two sections of paved roads. One end begins or ends at the Whittaker Bridge. The bridge is one lane across and is quite a sight to see. The Whitaker Bridge has an excellent put-in ramp for rafts and kyacks, ample parking in the lot above, and access to a nice clean pit toilet. The trail getting to the bridge consists of scenic shelf roads and dense forest sections. No camping is along the main route, and all the offshoot gates are locked. However, there are a few camping opportunities along the "Going to the Buffalo" trail in the area. Keep your eyes peeled for lots of wildlife. There are some pretty fat happy Marmots. Lots of deer Deer, Elk, and plenty of chipmunks. One bar of LTE cell service near the east end. There is no cell service at the bridge.

Difficulty

Most of the way, it's narrow for one vehicle, with pullouts to pass oncoming. Watch out for pot craters in the trail along the way that can swallow a tire. There are a few occasional washed-out sections. All bridges are only one vehicle wide.
