Lone Tree Pass-Deer Mountain Road

This section of trail is a fun exploration of some rocky terrain that climbs to almost 8,400 feet over a pass, giving you views of Elk Lake and the wildlife refuge area to the west. We explored this in early July, and there was still significant snow on some of the hillsides near the top of the pass. There is much to see along this route, so take your time and stop frequently to ensure you don't miss the wonders this area provides. There are spectacular rock formations, wildflowers in season, and a great opportunity to see wildlife as you go through this high mountain terrain. *Note: Many of the side trails off this trail are all blocked and are not to be used by any motorized vehicles.
