Trail Overview

This is a well maintained gravel road that meanders through Glacier National Park north of Lake McDonald. Many areas around this road have experienced a wild fire in recent history and caution should be taken for downed trees after storms. This road is not heavily traveled and does provide incredible sunset views from overlook points scattered along the road. There are several hiking, biking and horseback riding trailheads to access off the road before ending at a closed gate.

Difficulty

It’s a dirt road, narrow and some cliffs but any car could make it. We saw 3 bear cubs crossing road. Length is right but the longer road is closed beyond this point. The forest is regrowing after a fire years (?) ago.

Road was relatively smooth. Gravel and a little dusty. Single lane with pull outs to allow passing in certain areas. Sedans can drive it, that’s how easy it was today 9/8/2024.
