Trail Overview

The route is gravel, stone, and loose rock in different areas along the route. The route is very scenic along the way as you make your climb from 2700' up to 6200'. The route might be dusty or damp depending on the weather. Snow could make it impassible, if going too early in the spring or summer. Bear, Deer, Moose, and other wildlife can be seen at times on the route. Berries can be found and picked in the later months of summer. One part of the route will take you through a burned-out section of forest. Cell Service is hit-and-miss along the route. Fuel up in Superior before starting out on the route. There are many scenic spots along the way to stop for a packed lunch. Quinn's Hot Springs on Hwy 135 is just past the Segel Road campground.

Downed trees cut out of trail, but some cuts weren't to wide for a truck to fit thru. Dusty because of lack of rain

We made it about 7 miles up until we hit 9 inches of snow. We might have been able to push through but it was slick and we didn’t have another vehicle.

Trail was dusty but smooth. We utilized this trail to connect with other trails. in the entire 55 miles we drove, we only came across one other vehicle. Great area to explore!

Rode from Idaho Gulch Rd. to the turn off at Siegel Rd. Wanted to see if the upper elevations of the route were still snow covered. Trail is always rough going once you get to the old Iron Mountain Mine and above.. Mud holes and many puddles lined the route. We finally got into some snow on the trail at the 5500' elevation. The trail was passable as the snow was 8-10" deep for a short way. There was lose rock and a few tree branches we had to navigate thru all along the trail due to erosion from some of the steep banks. Once at Siegel Rd. we turned around and headed back to Superior.
