Trail Overview
This is a dedicated rock crawling trail that offers a variety of terrain to challenge even seasoned drivers. Scattered throughout the trail are rock obstacles that can reach up to 3 feet tall, depending on the line you choose. The trail also features a mix of off-camber sections keeping you on your toes the entire time. Multiple access points allow for flexibility in how you approach the route, but one of the more notable sections is a steep hill climb located near the scenic overlook and picnic area. This climb becomes significantly more difficult when wet due to loose, shifting rock on a sharp incline, requiring careful tire placement, traction management, and recovery gear on standby.

Challenging. Features include rocks up to 3 feet, off-camber sections, and elevation changes. A steep, loose hill near the overlook is tough--especially when wet. Best for well-equipped rigs and experienced drivers with recovery gear.
History
The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
