Trail Overview
This trail serves as a basic connector route starting from the main parking lot area. As you begin, it takes you past the designated vehicle washing station, making it a good spot to clean off your rig before or after a run. From there, the trail continues toward the bridge that crosses over the railroad tracks. After crossing, you'll find yourself on the main access route leading into the rest of the trail system. At the end of this short connector, you'll also notice the air station, located on the large metal building with a single garage door, easily visible from the trail.
Difficulty
This is a simple access trail with no obstacles. It connects the parking lot to the main trail system, passing the wash station and crossing the bridge. It's flat, easy to drive, and suitable for all vehicles.
History
The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
