Trail Overview
Mitiwan Lake is part of the Prospector Trail and begins at a paved road near a bridge. It starts wide and well-maintained, though there is some corrugation due to frequent use. During the drive, expect to encounter a mix of users, including cyclists, joggers, ATVs, side-by-sides, and full-size pickups. Early on, the trail intersects with 10B, a route that requires full 4WD, and several other trails branch off toward private residences. The trail also skirts a scenic lake with a picnic area that can serve as a rest stop. Past the intersection with Trail 177E, the condition of the Prospector Trail begins to change. It narrows significantly and becomes rougher, with visible signs of neglect. Vegetation encroaches on both sides, and the route includes rocky climbs and descents, patches of mud, and stretches that will likely cause pinstriping. There is a small creek crossing with a partially exposed irrigation pipe and noticeable erosion on both banks. The creek itself is shallow but has a soft, muddy bottom that can affect traction. After the crossing, the trail continues with more ups and downs, some of which are off-camber, and remains overgrown all the way to its connection with the Jack Pine Trail. There are no formal or dispersed campsites along this route, and visitors should not expect any amenities such as trash bins, water sources, or restrooms. Cell service is unreliable and may be completely unavailable in some areas.
