Trail Overview
This trail offers a moderate challenge with a mix of terrain that keeps things interesting without being overwhelming. You'll come across several rocky sections that require careful tire placement, along with a handful of steep hill climbs that add to the trail's variety. One hill in particular features larger loose rocks, which can affect traction and require momentum and control to climb successfully. Throughout the trail, there are a few mud puddles formed in shallow ruts--nothing too deep or concerning, but enough to splash through and keep things fun. Near the end, the trail splits into two optional lines, both of which reconnect and lead up to Lower Money Talks, allowing you to choose your preferred level of difficulty.
Difficulty
This moderate trail features rocky sections, steep hills, and occasional loose rock. Shallow rutted mud puddles add minor variety without real risk. At the end, two line options lead into Lower Money Talks--one easier, and one with rocks up to 2 feet tall that require solid clearance and careful tire placement.
History
The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
