Trail Overview

This trail is a narrow, wooded route that winds through dense trees and brush. The path is primarily dirt-based, but it tends to collect standing water in several sections, creating muddy patches that can affect traction, butt seem to have a fairly hard bottom. Due to the overgrowth and tight spacing between trees, pinstriping is very likely, particularly for full-size rigs or those with wider setups. Despite the mud and narrow confines, there are no major rock obstacles, ledges, or technical features along the route. It's a trail best suited for drivers who are comfortable with tight quarters and don't mind getting a little dirty.

Difficulty

While there are no technical obstacles, the trail's narrow width, overgrown vegetation, and frequent muddy sections may pose minor challenges. Pinstriping is likely for wider vehicles.

History

The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
