Trail Overview
This trail is a relatively mild and straightforward route that functions as a connector to more advanced trails like Axle Trap, Rock Ramble, and the exit of Ski Jump. The trail surface is primarily dirt, which means that after recent rainfall, mud puddles are common and can make the route slightly more slippery than usual. Despite this, the trail remains manageable for most vehicles with basic off-road capability. There are no significant obstacles or technical sections, making it ideal for those looking to reach tougher trails or simply enjoy a scenic and easier path through the area. Great for all experience levels.
Difficulty
While primarily a dirt base, which can become muddy after rainfall, there are no major obstacles or technical challenges along the way. Drivers should expect minor traction changes in wet conditions, but overall, it's a low-risk, beginner-friendly route ideal for accessing more difficult trails nearby.
History
The Iron Range OHV Recreation Area was built on reclaimed mining land, once part of the rich Mesabi Iron Range that fueled U.S. steel production for over a century. Today, this 1,200+ acre site blends industrial history with outdoor adventure, offering a rare chance to ride through the remnants of Minnesota's mining legacy.
