Trail Overview

This trail is divided into two distinct sections. The first half is accessed from Tomahawk Trail and follows a wide gravel path that winds through the forest with gentle ascents and descents. This portion is well-traveled, likely due to its connection with a more popular segment of the Prospectors Trail, as evidenced by the number of visible tire tracks. After passing a sign indicating that ATVs, side-by-sides, and Jeeps are permitted, the August Creek Trail continues straight and begins to deteriorate. The second half becomes a narrow two-track with steeper climbs and descents. Large puddles collect in the low areas between hills, and the trail surface becomes increasingly rocky, muddy, and slippery. It is also more overgrown in places, with some forest debris lying across the path. The trail passes a lake on the left, where a narrow and heavily overgrown side trail, marked as 388E, splits off. The main trail ends at a lake that has completely flooded the path, making further travel inadvisable. Just before the final ascent to the lake, there is a small area where vehicles can safely turn around. There are no amenities such as restrooms or water sources along the route, and cell phone reception may be limited or nonexistent throughout the area.
