Trail Overview

Old Bridge Overlook is an easy, scenic 23.8-mile point-to-point route through Michigan's Huron Mountains, perfect for boff-roaders seeking spectacular autumn foliage. Starting near the County Road 510 Old Bridge Overlook, this dirt and sand trail winds through a dense canopy of northern hardwoods, offering a relatively gentle drive with minimal technical challenge. The path follows CR 510 before transitioning onto county forest roads like CR GGA and CR GGB, eventually meeting up with the Red Road and the North Country Trail corridor. Along the way, drivers will navigate an elevation range from 892 to 1,499 feet, enjoying gentle grades with occasional sandy or washed-out sections that are easily managed by most stock high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles or all-wheel-drive crossovers. This route serves as a perfect gateway to several of the Upper Peninsula's most iconic natural and historic landmarks. Plan to stop and stretch your legs at Big Pup Falls, a picturesque roadside waterfall right along CR 510, before continuing north toward the stunning vistas at Thomas Rock Overlook, which offers panoramic views of Lake Superior and Keweenaw Bay. The journey concludes near the historic Big Bay Point Lighthouse, making this trail an exceptional day trip that seamlessly blends overland driving with hiking and sightseeing.

Fun road definitely more of a road than a trail but beautiful nonetheless.
