Trail Overview

This scenic 3.1-mile off-road trail on the Keweenaw Peninsula connects the Horseshoe Bay Northpoint area with the Rocket Range and High Point camping areas. Traversing dense forest, the narrow track is best suited for Jeeps, smaller SUVs, and high-clearance vehicles as extremely limited passing opportunities make it unsuitable for full-size trucks. Free of major rock obstacles or ledges, the trail descends from 800 feet down to 616 feet near the shoreline. It offers direct access to pristine coastal campsites and integrates well into day trips from nearby Copper Harbor.

Difficulty

Even after several days of rain, the trail has good traction. It's narrow with long shallow stretches of mud puddles in the tracks.

Trail is narrow at spots for mid-sized SUV. I would not attempt the trail in a full-sized rig. Several sections with deep ruts that will scrape the bottom of a high-clearance vehicle. There is one area of rock drop offs that can put sliders to work.

Fun trail, several bog holes that were about 2’ deep. Single technical section with an optional bypass for smaller ATV’s and bikes. Amazing beach access towards the end, felt like the end of the world. Trail didn’t appear to have much use.

When you enter the trail you immediately hit a gate keeper. Trail is severely washed out. 26 degrees off camber. Steer into the wall and you will be ok. Few big rocks. Ran on 33s, experienced driver. Rest of the trail is really easy. Great rustic camping and beach access. Trail ends with chained off area. Turn around is a must.

Access Description

This extremely narrow track is not recommended for full-size vehicles due to very limited passing opportunities. High-clearance vehicles, Jeeps, and smaller SUVs are highly recommended.
