Trail Overview

NFS 9718 is a bumpy and sandy off-road trail located off North Croswell Ave. This trail is typically easy with nothing technical, just a few washboard sandy sections that can rattle you around a bit. Most of the trail is a combination of sand and dirt, and curves through a beautiful section of the Manistee National Forest. Like most of Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause mud/water holes that can get rutted out quickly. Most of this trail is only wide enough for one vehicle, with limited places to pass. There's a LARGE dispersed campsite along this track. If you plan on utilizing this, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY, and seek more information at the local DNR Office/Ranger Station prior to camping here. Early on, the trail intersects the Iron Belle Trail, which is a set of two trails (one for hiking and one for biking) spanning over 2000 miles in Michigan, connecting Ironwood in the Upper Peninsula to Belle Isle State Park in Detroit. All in all, this is a great trail to get you out in the woods with some of the beautiful nature Michigan has to offer.
