Trail Overview
NFS 6583 is an easy 1-mile bidirectional trail. Located either off NFS 5782 from the west or FS 6691 from the east, you'll find the beginning of the trail, making it easily accessible. We started from the eastern side and were instantly given some pretty amazing sights. Beginning on mostly a sandy dirt road, you will be greeted by towering trees that almost surround you. As you make your way along this trail, you will come across a few mud holes that could become washouts after a significant rainfall. There are quite a few areas that are thick with lush vegetation edging the trail. It's a beautiful sight to see. As you navigate down the trail, you'll make a few twists and turns that will lead you to a pretty epic campsite. The McCarthy Lake Viewpoint is about halfway into this trail. You could park here and enjoy your day fishing, kayaking, or anything of the sort, and finish by camping under the stars. Be sure to take it all in, and TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. Also, keep your eyes open for wildlife! This trail will surely keep you entertained. Like most of Michigan's off-road trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! This is not a difficult trail, but it contains a lot of fun and beauty. This trail also gives access to other great trails nearby. Other trails off this route lead to other nearby routes. Regardless of the conditions or length of this track, it's an awesome route to check out! As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
