Trail Overview
NFS 6122/6123 is a gem of a Michigan two‑track trail, winding through the Manistee National Forest and starting just off NFS 6124. You kick things off on a wide-open and welcoming part of the forest. The calmness of the trail doesn’t last long as you proceed to come across many mud holes and ruts waiting to test your nerves. It can get seriously rutted, and weather plays a huge role in how gnarly it becomes. Keep rolling, and you’ll eventually hit the junction where the Manistee National Forest skirts alongside the Huron-Manistee National Forest, where the scenery just offers up more to be desired. There are a few sections of this trail that have some larger rocks hidden within the sand. Put your vehicle to the test and drive up on these to give yourself more of a challenge. As with most Michigan trails, rain changes everything—expect mud, downed branches, and the occasional washout. The trail wraps up in an overgrown stretch of forest near NFS 5316. Beyond the mud, this isn’t a tough trail—just a gorgeous, fun ride through a classic Michigan forest. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands and the nearby private landowners so future generations can have access to these trails!
