Trail Overview

Lumley Trail is a classic bidirectional Michigan two-track offroad trail within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. Located between 604 and Lumley Road, this trail is easily accessible. There is a little side skirt at the beginning of this trail in case you need to take a break from your adventure for a quick snack to refuel. This trail surface consists mostly of dirt and does get tighter towards the end, with tons of overgrowing vegetation lining the trail. This is a seasonal road, and there is a sign stating that it is not snowplowed by the Manistee County Road Commission, so keep that in mind. There are quite a few rutted-out sections along this trail that are filled up with water, so make sure you are checking the depth of these before you decide to traverse through them. This route weaves through a gorgeous section of trees within the forest. There are a couple of places along the route where the track narrows with some tighter trees. Like most Michigan offroad trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! This is not a difficult trail, but it contains a lot of fun and gives access to local hiking, hunting, and other recreation. Regardless of the length or conditions of this trail, it's a route worth checking out. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails.
