Trail Overview

FS 9997 is a bidirectional trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located near Highway M-37 & Caberfae Peaks Ski & Golf Resort, this trail is easily accessible. Most of the trail is a combination of sand, gravel, and dirt. Starting out from the southern end, you'll begin in a dense section of the forest. As you continue to descend in elevation, the trail begins to get sandy and thus has washboard sections. You may also encounter some washouts. Just like anywhere on these beautiful lands, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. You'll encounter a clear-cut section of the forest along this route as well as a row of towering pine trees. Both of these spots are worth checking out. The northern end of this trail finishes at a T with W 34-1/2 Road. Although there aren't any notable obstacles and this trail is not difficult, it still offers access to other awesome trails in this area and a lot of beauty! Regardless of the difficulty or conditions, this is a great trail for all!
