Trail Overview

FS 8630 is an easy 1.1-mile bidirectional trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located between Steinberg Road (FS 5502) and FS 8180, this trail is easily accessible. Having all these trails so close together really helps make for quite the adventure. Starting from the southern end of FS 8180, you'll start out on a mostly sand road with thick and lush vegetation edging the trail. Some of the trees along the beginning of this trail actually look like Christmas trees, which is pretty cool to see. You'll twist and turn along this route, taking in all the trees and wildlife. Be sure to take it all in. The forest and nature are the highlights of this trail, beyond the fact that it's a connector trail to other nearby trails in the area. We did this trail in April and found snow still. That was quite the sight to see. Remember, please TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. Like most of Michigan offroad trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, ruts, and washouts. Come Prepared! This is not a difficult trail, but does contain a lot of natural beauty. This trail also gives access to other great offroad trails nearby. The northern end of the trail finishes at another trail, so if you haven't checked that out, you can do so after this one! Regardless of the conditions or length of this trail, it's a cool route to check out! As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! Highway legal vehicles year-round. All others 4/1 to 11/30.
