FS 8429

FS 8429 is an exciting and fun 1-mile bidirectional seasonal sandy road within the Manistee National Forest. Located just north of East Hasenbank Road and south of East Stark Road, this trail is easily accessible from either end. Starting from the south end of East Hasenbank Road, you'll start in a dense section of the forest with some vegetation edging the trail. This route is part of the Irons Trail System, which is pretty cool. As you continue down the trail, you'll twist and turn as you change back and forth in elevation. The last 0.5 miles or so go alongside private property, so make sure to be respectful and stay on the trail! Be sure to take it all in, and TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. There are several sections with lots of gorgeous rows of towering pine trees. Like most of Michigan offroad trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. This is not a difficult trail at all, but it contains a lot of fun and beauty. This trail also gives access to other great trails nearby. The northern end of the trail finishes at East Stark Road, which can lead you to other wonderful trails. Regardless of the conditions of this trail, it's a really cool route to check out!
