Trail Overview
Frederic Route Cutover is an easy single-lane two-track that is ideal for stock high-clearance vehicles and offroaders looking to explore the interconnected trail network within the Grayling Forest Management Unit. This narrow, winding route follows a mix of dirt, gravel, and sandy surfaces through scenic stands of pines and hardwoods, offering a peaceful forest drive with frequent opportunities to spot local wildlife. Periodic wider sections provide enough room for oncoming vehicles to pass, making the trail comfortable for a leisurely day on the trails.
Scattered muddy areas can become more challenging after rainfall, but the route is otherwise a straightforward drive for most capable vehicles. Frederic Route Cutover connects to 612 Loop, making it a useful link for creating longer rides through Northern Michigan's extensive off-road system. Seasonal weather can significantly change trail conditions, particularly in the muddy sections, so checking conditions before heading out is recommended.
