Trail Overview

Croton to White Cloud offers a "back roads" option for traveling. This section of trail is primarily forest & seasonal roads. Although it is possible for a 2WD vehicle to travel this route be aware of recent weather conditions. There are several spots that are prone to wash out and hold deep water holes. This route offers a great way to enjoy the country and see what our public lands have to offer.

Trail had about 8 inches of snow in some areas, with the main parts of the Trail being packed down nicely with atleast 3 or 4 vehicles traveling through it before me. Halfway through the Trail, there is a driveway with a no trespassing sign, back up if you see that and take the next path to the left of it. The Trail is tight with several curves that make your vehicle lean to the left and right halfway or further into the Trail if you start from the east end of it. Several hills during the Trail have deep snow in them and have become mini mud holes from it.

The trail itself was open but just before the 3 mud holes section there is a section where someone has put up private property no trespassing sign. We did not proceed through and ended up running into that gentleman that was not to happy we even drove up to this gate and signed area. I plan to put an inquiry in with the DNR on this to see if this is in fact now a closed section of trail. According to our GPS location we were still on public property where these signs and gate were located.

A good trail with several fairly shallow water and mud holes. Pretty wide open with not many choke points, but pretty views.

Morning after a rain. Some small water holes on trail from the rain. Nice easy trail.

Mostly easy. A couple sandy spots and the 3 mud holes. You can bypass the mud holes. I struggled with the deepest of the three and had to back out of it.

Fairly easy trail. A few deep rutts, 12”. There are 3 deep mud holes but there is a bypass around them. I did most of the trail in 2-wheel drive. Trail is wide for the most part but there are some narrower sections with branches over hanging.

the main mud holes found half way through the trail are way deeper than shown when measured with a stick because the bottom is very silty. got a little bit of water in my passenger side of my cab. I don't recommend it to someone who doesn't want water in there cab. the bypass on the trail is cool and the small mud holes are not to bad they are shallow and fun to go through.

Upon entering the trail off of East 24th Street, the second puddle turtled the Bronco Sport. There are bypasses for all of the major mud puddles, except.

Very wet from all the rain. Drove upon a stuck SUV in a big mud hole that was at least 18 inches deep. If you go out during or after a good rain, be sure to have a winch for the “just in case” scenarios.
