Trail Overview

Conners Hole/Log Jam is an iconic off-road trail on Drummond Island, Michigan, perfect for intermediate drivers seeking classic northern woods terrain and a memorable water crossing. Stretching approximately 2.5 miles with very minimal elevation change, this trail offers a scenic route through dense forest, connecting drivers to the South Glenn Cove Road area. The path features a solid rock bottom that provides reliable traction, though conditions can vary significantly depending on the season. Water levels at the main crossing can become exceptionally deep after a long winter thaw, making a cautious approach and accurate depth assessment essential. High-clearance 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, or side-by-sides are ideal for handling the uneven rocky surfaces and water obstacles along this route. The signature water obstacle, Conners Hole, serves as an exciting highlight and a great spot for trailside photos or a lunch break once successfully crossed. Due to extreme water fluctuations in the spring, the best times to ride are mid-summer through autumn when trail conditions are more predictable. Connecting this trail with adjacent routes allows for a full day of exploring Drummond Island's renowned off-road network before returning to town.

Unfortunately the trail has been cleared and graded for logging. I didn't attempt the water crossing as I was by myself and being a Wednesday I hadn't seen much traffic if I was to become in need of help.

Sadly loggers have cleared out quite a bit of space leading up to the main obstacle. Water depth was roughly 26-30 inches in some spots. We made it thru with the Bronco without a problem.

Conners hole is the real deal! Was definitely deeper at the west end. Trails leading up to this point really weren’t to bad. The hole has solid rock bottom so no getting stuck but is rough terrain to cross and could see how this could eat your motor if it was any deeper then it was today! High profile vehicles do fine.

This straight water hole is rock bottom and is always about20” +/- 4” deep thru the season. A little rough on the south end about 75’ out so go slow here. Occasionally logs with be floating in the water. There is a bypass to the west.

I was nervous that Connor’s Hole would be extra deep in the spring time. It ended up being perfectly fine, and it has a solid rock bottom so you won’t get stuck or anything while crossing. But for those concerned, the bypass will take you around it.

The trail has been drained, smoothed out, rocks removed, holes filled, and made more accessible to more stock vehicles. Conor’s hole/Log Jam is still untouched and a favorite. If not going through Log Jam/Connors Hole, the trail is maybe a level 2 at this point with the work the DNR has done to make it more accessible to 2wd vehicles.

The water depth in the log jam was 32". There is a bypass west of the water hole. Watch out for rocks on the south west area of the water hole. The rest of the trail is rutted and rocky with room to pass.
