Trail Overview

Celotex Road is a state owned/ locally maintained, Level-2/ Level-3 forest access route with a surface composition of sand, dirt, gravel, and native material (ex: leaves, pine needles, pine cones, sticks, branches). This route traverses through the Baraga Forest management land of the Huron Mountain Range.

Gravel, dirt, and sand route typically unmaintained after rain or snow that may give rise to water crossings < 12” and obstacles such as tree/ tree branches and potential overflow from the Middle Branch Escanaba River &/or the Second River.

History

Celotex Road is a rural forest and seasonal access road located in the western/northern reaches of Marquette County and neighboring Baraga County (near Herman and Michigamme), taking its name from the historic Celotex Corporation fiberboard plant established in L'Anse, Michigan, during the mid-1950s.
