Trail Overview

Old Fincastle Road is a scenic and challenging 5.1-mile off-road trail near the Red River Gorge in Kentucky, perfect for mid-level to experienced drivers seeking a mix of easy cruising and technical obstacles. Beginning off Highway 11 near Rogers, the route descends through lush forest terrain, starting at around 1,200 feet in elevation and dropping to its lowest point near 715 feet. The early sections of the trail consist of relatively mild dirt and gravel, but the difficulty increases as drivers navigate off-camber dirt sections and a deep creek crossing that requires careful depth assessment, especially after heavy rain. The defining feature of this route is the challenging boulder obstacle near the end, which earns the trail its technical rating of 7 and requires high clearance, capable four-wheel drive, and ideally larger tires or traction aids. The route is best run from spring through fall, offering beautiful forest canopy views and a rewarding technical test for offroaders visiting the Daniel Boone National Forest area.

The way the trail is marked in OnX is confusing. If you stay on the dark shaded trail it is mostly just gravel. You need to turn onto old fincastle to get to the fun. After the creek crossing on old fincastle go straight to get to the rock garden. Turning left will put you on the KAT11. Lockers and 33s will get you through the rock garden if you take good lines.

Washout
The trail is washed out and you'll need to enter the creek to continue up north (I entered from Old Fincastle). Creek depth varied but was passible today with about 2 feet max depth. Exception was when you need to exit the creek. About 3 feet of water with soft sand with a sharp right hand turn going up the creek bed. Bronco Sasquatch Everglades on 35s.
