Trail Overview

Grandpa’s Getaway is a short gravel road that leads to a quiet access point at Little Cache Number 1 Reservoir, also known locally as Bowman Bottoms Fishing Hole. The route is easy to follow and ends at a small gravel and grass parking area near the water. The launch area consists of a natural gravel and rocky shoreline with no concrete ramp, making it best suited for small boats, kayaks, and canoes. This spot is known for crappie and bluegill fishing and offers a peaceful, low-traffic setting for spending time on the water. There are signs of previous camping use in the parking area, though amenities are not established. Visitors should plan for primitive conditions, follow pack-in/pack-out practices, and check regulations through the Shawnee National Forest for current rules regarding fishing and camping.

Difficulty

Easy. This is a short, mostly level gravel road suitable for 2WD vehicles in dry conditions. The parking and launch area is unpaved with gravel and grass, and the shoreline access is natural and uneven. Small, lightweight watercraft are recommended due to the lack of a formal ramp. Street-legal vehicles with valid license plates are required, as OHV use is not permitted within Shawnee National Forest.
