Trail Overview

This route passes through Oconee National Forest. It is well maintained and passable with most vehicles any time of the year. Muddy conditions can be encountered from time to time however, it should not limit the ability to travel the route. Several camping locations exist throughout the trail as well as an old mill historic site.

The main trail was definitely deserving of a 1/10 rating, however, there were many areas where you could pull off that appeared to have the potential for a higher rating. A few ruts and potholes, but nothing too serious. Enjoyable!

Aside from some absolutely massive potholes here and there, this trail is super smooth. Only a few spots where I was concerned about scraping but those were just some small ruts.

All obstructions clear, water crossing was a few inches at best. Gravel road, no real obstacles, campsites and break off mudding trails here and there and an historic site to explore.

Rode over half of the trail Wednesday, March 5, 2025 on my way back to Augusta from Athens. Looks like a good bit of recent logging activity and some controled burns. Many areas with pretty recent new gravel down to aid the log trucks. Really easy ride. Only touched 4x4 once when pulling a guy's truck out of a ditch. He'd looped it getting on the gas too hard in a turn and lost it into the ditch. Roads were slightly slick in that one spot from rain earlier in the day. Otherwise really even free relaxing trail ride.

We saw a couple bicycles and a couple cars, but other than that, it was empty and quiet. Explored a couple spurs in our Jeep Wrangler, and there were 3-4 mud holes, but nothing a 4x4 can’t handle (a sedan would have gotten stuck). Picnicked at a nice campground spot and hiked around. Our dog picked up some tiny ticks. But those were the spurs. The main road was clear and easy enough for a regular car. We hiked the horse trail near the historic archaeological site. Path was clearly marked with white paint on the trees, but you definitely want to wear pants with all the underbrush. Very nice location overall.

the road was well maintained there's a few options if you want to do some more serious offroading. it is a beautiful place to visit not many places like this left. there where a couple of people at the shoals only passed two vehicles on the trail only one was being driven the other parked on rhe side. one thing I have to complain about is the trash at some of the camp sites along the way if you can bring it in with you there's no reason you can't take it back out.

Road was in good shape, dusty. Couple of ruts, found 2 creek crossings that were easy for a stock 4Runner to cross.
