Trail Overview
This out-and-back, single-lane trail features several pull-off areas where oncoming vehicles can safely pass, although traffic is typically light and encounters are infrequent. FS 518 includes a mix of gravel and dirt surfaces, with some uneven sections, shallow ruts, and minor washouts that can make portions of the drive a bit more challenging than other roads in the Chattahoochee National Forest. While these conditions are generally manageable for most vehicles with adequate clearance, drivers should proceed with caution, especially after periods of rain. Along the route, there are a couple of pull-off areas that could serve as suitable spots for dispersed camping or taking a short break. The setting is quiet and remote, offering a peaceful forest atmosphere. There is no turnaround at the end of the trail. Cell service is unreliable or unavailable in this area, so it is important to plan ahead and bring any necessary supplies.
