Trail Overview
FS 287 is a quiet, grassy two-track through the pine forests of Osceola National Forest. Beginning off Little Suwannee Road, the route transitions from exposed sandy soil to a lightly traveled corridor where grass and other vegetation cover much of the road surface. The terrain is extremely flat with no major technical obstacles under dry conditions, making this an easy and relaxed forest drive. Young pines, brush, and stands of taller mature pines line the route, with several stretches opening up to provide long views down the trail. The road feels increasingly remote as vegetation grows taller around the two-track. While easy when dry, the grassy surface can obscure the ground, and conditions could change considerably following periods of heavy rainfall.
Difficulty
FS 287 is a very easy, flat two-track with no significant technical obstacles under dry conditions. The primary considerations are the narrow usable roadway, drainage ditches along both sides, and vegetation that can partially obscure the traveled surface. The underlying soil is sandy, but no deep sand, significant ruts, mud holes, rocks, ledges, steep grades, or water crossings were encountered during this drive. Full-width vehicles should stay centered on the established track due to the ditches along the road. Conditions may change following heavy rain.
