Trail Overview
FS 291-I is a lightly traveled, heavily overgrown forest road through Osceola National Forest. Much of the route is covered by tall grass and other vegetation, with the established tire tracks becoming faint or difficult to see in several areas. The road passes through a mix of open pine forest and denser vegetation, creating a secluded and remote feel despite the relatively easy terrain. The route is predominantly flat and grassy, with no major rocks, ledges, steep grades, or water crossings encountered during this drive. A small downed tree was present across the roadway and required careful clearance. Drivers should also watch for hidden surface conditions beneath the tall vegetation, particularly after periods of heavy rainfall.
Difficulty
NFSR 291-I is generally a very easy, flat forest road, but heavy vegetation obscures much of the traveled surface and a small downed tree was encountered across the roadway. The tree was manageable in a high-clearance 4x4 but requires careful tire placement and provides the primary obstacle supporting the 2/10 rating. No significant rocks, deep ruts, ledges, steep grades, or water crossings were encountered under dry conditions. Tall vegetation may conceal small holes, debris, or changes in the road surface, and wet weather could make conditions more difficult.
