Trail Overview

Earls Ford is an out-and-back road with a few obstacles that are worth the ride out to experience. Also, you are rewarded with an awesome overlook of the Chattooga River at the end. This trail has some spots you will need to take your time on with an amazing creek crossing that could become impassable during periods of heavy rain. Cell service is spotty at best and we did not have service for most of the trip. There are a few dispersed camping spots along the river that would make for a peaceful spot to stay for the night.

Trail was challenging. 2nd gen 4x4 5 speed Tacoma, bone stock, street tires. Rocks past creek crossing required several attempts in 4 low, also the rutted sandy incline on the way back was tricky. Super fun trail.

I did this without any lockers and played in the creek. You’ll be fine with 33s and a lift

Fun trail, only had to get in 4L once or twice to cross the river and a large rut. Some mud holes. We joined this with Sarah's Creek and had a great time

Most of the trail is flat & well maintained until you get to the river. After crossing the river there are 2 sections of the trail where you might want to be technical & with a spotter. Good place to chill. 5/16/26

Did in a bone stock 2nd gen Tacoma. This trail is definitely rated way to high for what it is. If you have 4x4 you will be able to do this trail

Trail is gravel and beginner rated up until the watercrossing. The left line is deeper than the right line. Coming out there's a slippery, steep rock ledge. Make sure you're aired down, have good tires and good momentum. From there to the end it's dirt, sand and ruts. take your time, choose the smart line not the fun one. These ruts are woo-daisies. All in all Great technical fun!

Smooth sailing all the way even crossing the creek was easy. Need some guidance to get across the rock garden, it’s pretty rutted. Someone was able to guide me up and back down.

Nice and easy dirt road to the gate keeper (river crossing). Watch your speed going down the road as it gets narrow and is only one track in some spots. Fun trail with two major obstacles. Completed this in stock rubicon 4xe on 33s. First rock climb can be done nice and easy, i crawled straight up the middle, but I’ve seen people hug the right side slightly. Further down are some serious deep ruts. Going down I hugged the right side. Watch your line and you’ll be fine. You will definitely be off camber. Going back I scraped my skid plates going up the ruts and scraped climbing back down the rocks. Helped a stock JLU make it through with no lockers, this is a fun trail!

Road in is easy for any vehicle. Water level of the river wasn't high but could not complete the most technical part of the trail across the river. That obstacle tequires a good approach angle.

Finally had the chance to get up to Earls Ford Road and complete the trail. It is dirt road, easy enough for any who would like to try it up until the fording. While it is a nice enough trail with the large Warwoman creek beside it up until the fording of a quite wide portion of Warwoman creek, the fording, the rock ledge out of the water, and the trail after is where all the adventure is, and then at the end where all of the beauty is. The trail ends at a wide part of the Chattooga River and is simply gorgeous. If it had been a bit warmer, I'm sure we would have enjoyed it a bit more even. Well worth the trip out if you have the equipment to make it.

There is a lot of downed trees however we were able to navigate them trough with F150. Some of the ruts have gotten steeper over time for driving a bigger F150 Tremor. Over all I had no issue traveling through this trail.

Pretty easy to the water crossing then the fun begins. You will def need a high clearance vehicle (I have a 2021 ranger with a 2.5 lift for reference)Getting up the other side can be intimidating. Failed the first try. I don't have lockers so I had to give it a little more gas to make sure I had the momentum to make it. I'm an intermediate driving level so if you have a little experience and your ride is solid you should be fine. If its raining or had rained then all bets are off as I see where it would be very slick. The rest of the way gets a little sporty to the other water area but very doable. Very fun experience, would recommend.

Pretty easy trail to Warwoman creek. We didn’t go any further. The climb out of the creek is pretty rough and didn’t feel like breaking anything today. Lots of trees down still but they’re pushed clear of the trail

Due to the recent storm, there are many fallen trees along the trail. We were only able to complete about half of the route (approximately 2 miles). Some trees were cleared from the path, but there were too many to finish the trail. ⚠️ Use caution and proceed carefully.
