Trail Overview

This trail will require a high-clearance vehicle in select areas and 4WD during certain times of the year. There is a very good chance of observing bald eagles, deer, alligators, and wild hogs along this trail. The trail is open all year, however, this is an active wildlife management area where seasonal hunts occur. During hunting season the trails may have active hunters traveling them as well as high standing water from the seasonal rains. The Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission charges $3 per person or $6 per vehicle for daily use. The fee and check-in are located on the north side of Zemel Road at the check station.

Difficulty

The trail is narrow, uneven, and deeply rutted at many locations. Also, there are many washes and water crossings that can be up to 18 inches in depth even during drought season.

Wow this ‘green’ trail caught us off guard. It turned swampy quick and had no places to turn around. So we just kept plowing through. There were water crossing easily 3-4 ft deep. Literally had the headlights of the F-150 in the bow wave. Oh and bulls and a boar.

A few other vehicles. Not at all challenging. Friend is new to a 4x4 so we got him stuck and got himself out. Saw a deer, a hog, eagles and an osprey. Beautiful day. Might be dinner in rain.

The trail from Seminole grade was dry on the way in. We crossed 10-15 water crossings. Most were shallow and short, some were easily 18” deep. There were only 2 that we slippery, most seemed like solid ground under water. There were not any obstructions. On the way out we got caught in a big rain storm. This trail could get major flooding with rain in many spots.
