Trail Overview

This is an easy cruise through Meshomasic State Forest along an unmaintained, mostly dirt road with some gravel sections. While it's passable in almost any vehicle, I recommend something with off-road capability due to frequent bumps, ruts, and the occasional mud hole--especially after a good rain. You'll find numerous spots to pull off and enjoy hiking or hunting. One of the highlights is an old Nike missile site, which you can reach via a short hike.

Difficulty

There's nothing technical about this trail--just a few bumps and some mud holes if it's rained recently.

Really enjoyable. Great conditions. Ate a quick lunch at the open area with the stone bench, by the southern entrance/exit. Traveled north, took the path right at the fork. Saw a humongous snapping turtle by the water, when the trees let out. Rabbit, and a large bird I couldn’t tell what it was. Oh, and the bullfrogs and toads throughout. There are some “optional” obstacles, if you’re feeling daring to take. I underestimated how deep one of the puddles in the ditch was. Caught me by surprise and lightly made contact with the left center of the broncito. Slow down for some of the potholes and large rocks in the northern tip of trail and you’re all good. The swampy section was my favorite, withall the different wildlife congregating there made it exciting.

I started off Cox Road and turned onto Del Reeves so I can’t speak for the entirety of the trail but at least that section is very smooth. Seems like it was recently graded with fresh gravel after the winter

Went on nice mild day, fairly dry path. Gravel at the beginnings with some rougher areas and one or two muddy spots as you get further . Surrounded by lots of private lands.

One of the few trails for full sized trucks in CT if you’re not looking to scratch your paint. Very fun, especially for my first trail in the new truck!

Beautiful off road trail. Can be explored by any vehicle. I wouldnt bring my “Ferrari” but its a very easy trail. Lots of dence trees. A few walking trails and a some small spots to park off the road. Lots of kids having fun riding dirt bikes on the weekend.

Very leisurely and easy drive, but it was picturesque as it was snowing. I was surprised at how many people were on it, so be careful around some of the tight turns and go slow so you don't hit anyone.

EASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNING. Took a nice ride up early on a Sunday morning by myself. A light rain fell as I drove up from NYC. The trail was made up mostly of loose gravel and dirt. No steep incline or declines. Just a nice easy ride with the occasional pool of muddy water. Beautiful state forest with really easy accessibility. Was able to spend as much time as I wanted in there as there were plenty of places to pull over and get out while still allowing another full size to pass. Loving this app and all it’s opening up for me and my family.
