Trail Overview

From Highway 24 in Johnson Village, take CR301 to CR300. A trail sign is at the entrance of CR 300 to the left. There are 2 gates for the entrance to the staging area that must be closed upon entering. The staging area is large with a Porta Potty and areas for dry camping. The beginning of the trail is a slow rocky climb to a 2-part gatekeeper over large ledge rocks with no winch points. Next is a slow arduous, rocky climb through large boulders and narrow gaps between trees along with loose rock at places. There are very few bypasses along this part of the trail. Also please note this portion of the trail is a 2-way until you get to the Y at the creek bottom where it becomes one-way. As you pass through the creek bottom you will encounter the Playground area where you can test your driving skills or bypass altogether. The next obstacle is the Whale's Tale which is a rock ledge with several different approaches but no bypass. The trail continues to climb to the peak with another play area as well as a bypass. At this point, you begin the descent but will encounter the Waterfall which is a tricky short climb up a rutted v-notch ledge and then continues down the mountain back to the creek bottom. From the creek bottom, you will follow the trail back to the gatekeeper area with 2-way traffic. This trail can take anywhere from 3-8 hours depending on a number of rigs and driver capabilities.

Easy enough trail to get to and navigate, group of three with built rigs. Some areas harder to get through with longer wheelbases, there was a group of TJ’s in front of us and some dirt bike but not bad traffic for a Saturday afternoon. Some decent obstacles, a fun trail for sure. Front lockers definitely make this trail more doable in some of the obstacles, we managed with a TJ that has LSD’s (front and rear) and 33’s. We ended up doing this trail and camping up clear creek about 30 min from the trail head.
