Trail Overview

FS 717D is a moderately easy ATV trail through the North Divide Off- Highway Vehicle Area. It is mostly pea gravel and dirt, flowing through the Pike National Forest, with ponderosa pines and aspen groves, and riding past scenic rock outcroppings. The trail has lots of whoops and gets heavy use on busy summer weekends. Most of the trail is very easy, but there are a few sections with roots, ruts, and embedded boulders. There are a couple of ramped rock features that are embedded boulder faces that riders will have to go up and down. It weaves tightly between the trees and through a couple of metal 50 inches pinch points at the road crossings. The trail has become narrow and dug out between dirt banks in a few spots. In one section, a creek was overflowing into the trail, and you had to ride through a giant puddle. It connects to FS 717C on the west end.

This is a moderate ATV route due to several intermediate features throughout the route, such as whoops, short rock ledges, roots and ruts, although the trail is mostly gradual, with little elevation change. Expect a deeper water crossing, and narrow troughed spots.
