Trail Overview

This is an ATV or dirt bike trail that follows I-70 from the town of Dillon to the Eisenhower Tunnel. You follow the creek most of the time, which is in the shadow of I-70. It's mostly an easy road with some sand, washouts, a few shallow creeks, and some small but steep hills. This passes through the burn scar from the 2021 Straight Creek Fire.

Difficulty

This trail is part one-lane road, part ATV trail (50-inch). It has several shallow creek crossings and a few very rocky sections.

History

This appears to have been built to support the construction of I-70 and the tunnels. Today it serves as a service road for the I-70 drainage system which is interesting in itself, as well as for access to utilities to the tunnel.

On the big 890s this would not be considered easy for an average rider. I am an intermediate/advanced rider still getting my legs on the rocky climbs. Great trail with a few manageable log hops. The tricky part for us was the long loose rock climb at the end heading up towards I70 tunnel. Good thing there were two of us to help each other out when we got stuck getting going on the loose rocks, smaller bikes should have no issue. We had an absolute blast. More advanced riders would rip this pretty quickly, and I think still find it enjoyable. Less advanced riders can do it so long as they have help. For context, I am from the east and this type of terrain is not something I am accustomed to. Never mind at the elevation and altitude, oxygen deprivation to add to the challenge.
