Trail Overview

Short trail off of Governors Basin trail in Ouray. It leads to some open meadows, some nice views and an old abandoned mine. Be aware there is another trail to the east on the map indicated with dotted lines. It is a VERY narrow trail with no areas to pass another vehicle and areas washing out, so best to return on same Sidney Basin trail to Governors Basin and avoid this trail.

Pretty easy going until about halfway. I made it down the first obstacle fine but didn’t want to attempt the second one without better skid plates. Driving a 5th gen 4runner on 33s. Large rocks/loose dirt on a steep decline.

I give this a 6 rating on difficulty due to 2 sections back to back that are pretty technical right before you go down into the basin where the mine is. See photos. I had a Rubicon with 35's and didn't attempt those sections. Rest of the trail a solid 3. Had lunch at the top and turned around. Beautiful spot for lunch!

Not a recent report but feel the need to comment this is NOT a level 1 by any means. The "other" site and comments note this is AT LEAST a 5. I've run this 2x in SxS (not an experienced 4x4 by any means). The drop down into Sidney had a STEEP and large rock section that is CHALLENGING. Lift and 35s seem recommended. Getting back UP is even harder I suspect. Both times we opted for the lower road out and as noted elsewhere, it is both NARROW and Off Camber. Big Time. We love this Basin as you're often on your own and great scenery but know you're committed if you drop in to one challenge or another getting out. If your rig is wide or a bit top heavy the lower section will likely feel downright dangerous. Plan on having to drive UP the obstacles you dropped down on.

Turned around at a very tippy (22+ degrees side angle) downhill crawl with 18-24” obstacles. Probably worth a re-rate from green to blue trail.
