Trail Overview

Scratch and Dent is a short but challenging 0.4-mile trail perfect for intermediate offroaders seeking to test their skills on tight canyon terrain and rocky obstacles. Starting just a quarter-mile from Rim Road on the Calamity Canyon entrance road, the route is marked by a small sign on the left at the bottom of a small draw. The trail initially winds up this sandy wash, offering a mix of smooth sand and small boulders that require careful line selection. At approximately one-third of a mile, drivers will encounter a fence gate, leave the gate as you found it after passing through (open or closed). This rocky ascent climbs approximately 108 feet out of the draw over a challenging 100-yard stretch. With a maximum pitch of over 23 degrees, this section can pose a challenge for rigs without high clearance and traction aids. Once reaching the top of the climb, the trail levels out; drivers should turn left and follow the track for a quarter of a mile back to the Calamity Canyon entrance road, where a right turn completes the loop back to Rim Road. With an elevation range between 6,018 and 6,126 feet.
