Trail Overview
Sandbench-Fr Rd 642 is an easy 2.4-mile ridge-top route located within the San Juan National Forest near Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Branching east off Piedra Road (Forest Road 631), the trail runs along a heavily forested ridge at an elevation of roughly 9,600 to 9,700 feet, offering dispersed camping opportunities. With minimal elevation change and a technical rating of 2, the road is accessible to most stock high-clearance and AWD vehicles in dry conditions.
The surface consists of semi-maintained dirt and loose rock, which can become muddy during wet weather.
