Trail Overview

The Quartz Meadow Road (#684) is a definite 4x4 WD High Clearance trail near Pagosa Springs. The road's first eight-tenths of a mile are through East Fork Ranch property, so important to stay on the road. Shortly after starting the trail, there will be the water crossing of the East Fork of San Juan River. Following the river crossing the road becomes rocky, even more so after leaving the ranch property through the cattle guard. Once up to the top, you arrive at beautiful meadows with several disturbed primitive campsites along Quartz Creek near the trail crossing. Continuing all the way to the end of the trail, the last three-tenths of the road have some large dips as it leads to another area with a few disturbed primitive campsites. No services are provided, so pack out what you pack in. No cellular service is available. The Quartz Creek Trailhead (#571) is located just before you arrive at the creek. This trail is considered a difficult hike, available for horseback riding as well. The trail will connect with the Little Blanco Trail (#572) and the Quartz Lake Trail (#568).
