Trail Overview

Easy to moderate, dirt trail off Old Chalk Road, County Road 292, located near the Mount Princeton Resort outside the town of Buena Vista, CO. The trail features ruts, rock gardens, and rocky obstacles. The trail features two historical sites, an old power plant and the Iron City Cemetery. Along the trail are day-use areas to stop for a break or picnic, fishing spots, and wildlife sightings. At the end of the trail is the Iron City Campground, and then the road exits at the ghost town of St. Elmo, CO. The road is a nice, scenic alternative from Mount Princeton Resort to St. Elmo. There are other offroad opportunities in the area, such as Tin Cup Pass, Grizzly Lake, and Iron Chest.
