Trail Overview

This route is a high-elevation road that takes you above treeline with scenic views of the surrounding mountains, and at the end of the trail, there is a short hike to Brown's Lake. The trail starts out from the Baldwin Lakes Trail and as it takes you above treeline, there is a series of switchbacks to a pass. At the top of the pass, you can either continue up the road towards Mount Antero or descend down to Brown's Lake. Once you descend back down below treeline, the road gets a little bit more narrow through the trees and the terrain becomes a little more difficult. There are a handful of dispersed camping spots below treeline on either side of the pass. There are fish in Brown's Lake, but it is a very shallow lake.

Difficulty

The trail is mostly very rocky with sections of steep loose rock and only one or two technical sections. The first half of the trail up to the pass is easier than the second half descending down to Brown's Lake.

Trail was clear to 13,100’ we then continued to 13,700’ and hiked Mt Antero. Clear beautiful conditions all the way up. Bronco raptor but could have done it in a stock TJ, I think.
