Trail Overview

This is a street legal only spur off of Boreas Pass to the summit (almost) of Mt Blady, to the east of Breckenridge offering excellent views of the town of Breckenridge, the ski area, as well as many of the trails outside of Montezuma (Deer Creek, St. John's, Webster, Red Cone, etc). The road is relatively maintained for the radio communications equipment located on the summit, as well as the Iowa Mine and Mill.

Difficulty

About 1/2 way up near tree line the road narrows from 2+ lanes to one lane. There is less rock and more dirt, so this road is prone to washing out in places but is semi maintained by the county.

From the last report only several days ago a lot of the snow must have melted. There is still snow on half the road up to my pinniped point on the map but easily passable. The last switchback, however, isn’t quite passable. Although, I was really thinking hard about trying to take it just to the left side in my pic!

We made it as far as the switchback just past the Little Tommy Mine. From that point on there are numerous areas of drifting snow some several feett deep across the road so there are no vehicles that are going to make it until more snowmelt occurs. Trust me, we tried. We ended up hiking to the ridgeline and it was strenuous walking through all that snow. Absolutely beautiful though, especially once you get above the treeline. you can see all of Breckenridge and even as far as Dillon/Dillon lake.

We were able to take a stock newer silverado all the way to the top being careful on some of the loose and bigger rocks. Took us an hour to get to the top. Lots of hikers on the trail as well. The first 1/3 was hard dirt with some rock. The last 2/3 was mostly just small rock garden from 2"-10" rocks. But no major obstacles.
